This handsome celebration of Jane Austen's letters is illustrated with portraits, facsimile letters, topographical engravings and fashion plates, bringing to life the Georgian and Regency world. Presented with a commentary by Penelope Hughes-Hallett, the letters are arranged around visual themes, including the Hampshire countryside, social life in Bath and London, domestic pursuits, paying visits and travelling by carriage, and cover the period from 1796, when Jane was 20, to the year of her death, 1817.
