What we love about Japanese paper brand Midori MD Paper

With their minimal design aesthetic and premium quality paper that supports any drawing and writing material, we've fallen in love with MD Paper and are constantly restocking them as our customers clearly do too!

The Midori MD paper used was first developed in the 1960s as Midori's original diary paper, and has continuously gone through quality improvement until today. This paper is adopted for writability and is fountain pen friendly. It prevents smearing or bleeding through easily. Light watercolour washes also work without the paper pilling, though the paper will crinkle as it absorbs water. The paper also has a subtle amount of texture so that pencils have plenty of grip as you write.

MD's notebook collection is designed deliberately with no cover but instead with a cheesecloth mesh tape appended to the spine in plain sight, a coloured bookmark and index label sticker.

The MD notebook is created using traditional thread-stitched book-binding methods and stitched down the spine for durability and a perfect lay-flat design opening to 180 degrees.

Carefully considered simplicity is at the heart of what MD Paper does so well, and that's why we love them. For over 70 years they've refined their signature paper and product into a beautifully crafted notebook or notepad making writing and drawing an absolute delight!
