Sailor's Manyo inks are named after flowers mentioned in the oldest and most revered anthology of poetry in Japan, 'Manyosyu'. This collection of over 4,000 poems written by people from all walks of life, including emperors and farmers, spans 400 years. Being inspired by Japanese culture, Sailor chose to name their Manyo inks after flowers featured in this centuries-spanning epic. The unique properties of Manyo's dual shading ink allow it to shade into different colors, ranging from light purples to deep greens, when it pools into areas of high and low concentration on the page.
Manyo AYAME is a green grey ink that shades into purple and grey tones, while Manyo FUJI is a light purple ink that gradually shades into different purples. Manyo HINOKI fades from blue-grey into shades of purple and green, while Manyo KOKE transitions from light green into deeper shades of purple and green.
